چکیده

We produce a detailed map of the perturbed surface density of neutral hydrogen in the outer Milky Way disk demonstrating that the Galaxy is a nonaxisymmetric multi-armed spiral. Spiral structure in the southern half of the Galaxy can be traced out to at least 25 kpc, implying a minimum radius for the gas disk. Overdensities in the surface density are coincident with regions of reduced gas thickness. The ratio of the surface density to the local median surface density is relatively constant along an arm. Logarithmic spirals can be fit to the arms with pitch angles of 20-25.

In the last decade, observational studies have shown the existence of tidal streams in the outer part of many galactic globular clusters [6, 7]. The most striking examples of clusters with well defined tidal tails are represented by Palomar 5 [9] and NGC 5466 [2] (both observed in the framework of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey), which show structures elongated for 4 kpc and 1 kpc in length, resp...

We present high angular resolution (∼ 1 and 0.6) mm-interferometric observations of the CO(1− 0) and CO(2− 1) line emission in the central 300 pc of the late-type spiral galaxy NGC6946. The data, obtained with the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI), allow the first detection of a molecular gas spiral in the inner ∼ 10 (270 pc) with a large concentration of molecular Based on observation...

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We have studied five seasons of OGLE-III data for eight SMC Be/X-ray pulsars for which no other survey data were available. We have determined orbital periods for four of these binary systems, one of which also shows nonradial pulsations. Optical identification of SMC X-2 is reconsidered, but no periods were found for either of the two possible candidates.
